Books

I’ve curated two separate collections of Spring Books featured below. It’s always important to me to highlight diverse children’s books, as children of color are underrepresented in picture books~ thus I want to amplify these stories so that they land on shelves where a child can potentially find a story that mirrors who they are, where they are from, and what they look like. Therefore, along with a collection of *Spring New Releases/ Old Favorites*, I’ve also curated a collection of *Diverse Spring Books.* Spring books for the season! For the full lists, check out the links below.

Feeling upset, she discovers something unexpected about the rabbit, leading her to reflect on her growing family and giving her the inspiration to try again.

One Springy, Singy Day by Renee Kurilla // A lively and heartwarming story about a group of diverse children playing throughout their day. The story is inspired by the author’s own two-year-old child and captures the joy and adventure of raising a lively toddler.

Love Makes a Garden Grow by Taeeun Yoo // A young girl who observes her grandfather’s garden and learns to appreciate the beauty of nature. Her grandfather teaches her about caring for plants and gives her a flower, thus teaching her about love. As the girl grows up and the garden becomes smaller, she never forgets the lessons learned from her grandfather and their close relationship.

In Every Life by Marla Frazee // Explore the different emotions and experiences that make up a person’s life, including love, loss, hope, joy, wonder, and mystery. Through simple yet powerful text and beautiful illustrations, the author celebrates both the significant and mundane moments that shape a person’s journey.

However, when the judges don’t choose her birdhouse, she learns that it may still be the perfect home for someone else.

Platanos Go With Everything by Lissette Norman // Plátanos are Yesenia’s favorite food, and they are a staple in her Dominican family’s meals. She loves how they can be sweet or savory and accompany any dish. Visit Yesenia’s apartment and learn why plátanos are essential to her family’s cooking and love.

How Many Squirrels are in the World? by Ben Gundersheimer (Mister G) // A fun count-along book about a curious little girl who wants to find out how many squirrels there are in her town. She searches high and low, but the squirrels keep moving around, making it difficult to keep count. The playful rhyming text eye-catching illustrations make this book an entertaining read. Littles will enjoy spotting the rambunctious squirrels throughout the story.

My Grandpa, My Tree, and Me by Roxanne Troup // Grandpa plants a pecan tree in his orchard the day his granddaughter is born. As the seasons change, Grandpa takes care of each tree in his orchard, but the granddaughter’s tree is special and not a part of the orchard. They both care for the tree together, from tending its roots to harvesting its pecan treasures, and using them to create something delicious.
