Book Synopsis/ Review

Pete the Cat isn’t thrilled about the seasons changing from summer to autumn. There’s so much he loves about summer, but what is there to love about Autumn? However, as Pete the Cat joins his family and friends on some fall adventures~ including apple picking, hay rides, corn mazes, football games, knitting sessions, and more ~ he discovers exactly what he loves about autumn, and most importantly, what he loves most all year long!

This is an excellent read for introducing and sharing some classic Autumn activities with little learners. The story also touches on Thanksgiving at the end, when Pete and his friends and family all gather around to share a meal. Pete the Cat reflects on what he loves most about Autumn, and then realizes that no matter the season, his friends and family will always be what he cherishes most. Littles will also enjoy watching Pete collect items from each of his adventures, and what he uses them for at the end is a delightful surprise that inspired the craft pairing for this book! Check it out down below!

*What I Love About Autumn* Cornucopia Craft

Pete the Cat discovered many things he loved about Autumn. Some of my favorite things about Autumn include apple picking, visiting the pumpkin patch, wearing comfy sweaters, and baking pumpkin goodies and corn bread! This book’s craft pairing encourages little learners to reflect on and share what they love about Autumn, and then, like Pete in the story, to also share what/who they love all year long. Decorate and color the Cornucopia Craft, and then lift the flap to record your Autumn Joys. Happy Fall crafting, Mai Friends!

Materials

Directions

  • Choose Black-and-White or Color templates.
  • Print out the Pete the Cat Attachments. You only need one per person. Color if you chose Black-and-White and cut it out.
  • Print out the Cornucopia Cover Flap. Color if you chose black-and-white. Cut it out.
  • Choose a Response Template. There are THREE Different Versions: Plain Cornucopia, “______ Falling for Autumn” , ”What _______ Loves About Autumn” (Fill in your name in the blank rectangles)
  • Each Version comes with FIVE Differentiated Response Templates to record your favorite things about Autumn, and then what you love most all year long (inspired by the end of the Pete the Cat book)
  • Differentiated Versions include: Picture Response, Picture + Written Response, Written Response, Free Response, Blank
  • Choose a template and fill in your responses by drawing or writing about your favorite fall things, and what you love most all year long
  • TO CONNECT: First, Glue the Cornucopia Cover Flap onto the Response Template where it says “Glue” and is shaded in gray at the top
  • Line up the leaves/edges so the Cover Flap covers the response part of the template, and when you close the flap, it looks like a complete cornucopia (see the sample photos)
  • Next, attach the Pete the Cat Attachment.
  • Glue the bottom of your Pete the Cat anywhere along the top of the Cornucopia basket, so Pete’s head and neck pop up from behind the Cornucopia.

Enjoy Your *What I Love About Autumn* Cornucopia Craft

  • Re-read the story with your Pete the Cat Cornucopia Buddy, and you can share what you love about Autumn when Pete shares about what he loves in the end.
  • Share your craft with friends and family and ask them what they love about Fall.
  • Use your craft as a bucket list of fall activities you want to do this autumn.
  • Display the crafts for a festive Fall display, and to remind students of all the wonderful things about Autumn!
