*Duck or Rabbit Perspective Pinwheel* Craft

Perspective is how you see or think about things. Two different people can have two very different perspectives. For example, my friend and I could be looking at the same exact animal, but I might say, “Look at that adorable tiny chihuahua!” while my friend might say, “Ughhh, look at that disgusting rat!” We are looking at the same small scrawny animal, but whereas I think it looks cute like a puppy, my friend thinks it’s ugly like a rodent. Perspective makes life super interesting~ because there are so many different way to view and think about the same thing! Anything *old* can seem completely *new* if you take a different perspective. In this week’s read aloud~ the animal in question is either a Duck or Rabbit ~ and just like the book, I have no concrete answer for you… but with this week’s craft, maybe you could convince someone why the animal *definitely* is a duck or rabbit! Prepare for an afternoon of perspective changing and persuading!

Materials

Directions

  • Cut out the Pinwheel circles.
  • Cut out the rabbit/duck head.
  • Tape the rabbit /duck head to the top of the gray Under-Pinwheel template so that it sticks up from the top.

  • Next, lineup the top-body pinwheel on top of the gray under-pinwheel, and attach the Pinwheel bodies, by poking a whole through the center of the pinwheel (marked by the dot) and the center of the gray pinwheel underneath.
  • Weave a small piece of the pipe cleaner through both holes and then bend down the ends so that the pinwheel is secure. Tape down the pipe cleaner end on the back.
  • Spin your wheel to line up the different bodies under the head~ and watch the animal transform from a rabbit to duck *and back and forth* right before your eyes!

Enjoy Your *Duck or Rabbit Perspective Pinwheel* Craft

  • Use your craft to persuade a family member or friend to agree with you that the animal is a duck or rabbit
  • Have the craft as a reading buddy while you reread the story and change the bodies on your craft to match the animal on the different pages of the book.
  • Take your craft with you to retell the story to a family member or friend, and ask them about their own perspective: is it a rabbit or a duck?
